A person who is said to be “catastrophic” usually means that they take an extremely negative or disastrous view of situations – but not always. They have a tendency to anticipate the worst and the most dreadful of scenarios. Again, sometimes they may boost the severity of problems or challenges. There is always a feeling in them that initially they will fail. It is negative allover outlook towards it. You would want to smack your son or daughter in the head and say, “Wake up! This earth is not over.” Such false representations of the world can be very distressing. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and other mental health interventions can help individuals become rid of catastrophic thoughts.
